18ct Gold Vintage Old Cut Diamond Ring
Unusual Art Deco diamond ring, designed as a pierced flower or snowflake cluster, set throughout with old mine cut diamonds totalling approximately 0.70 carats. Old mine cuts — the hand-fashioned forerunner of the modern brilliant — have a warmer, softer sparkle than contemporary diamonds. The stones are evenly matched and set across a pierced, scalloped mount with open gallery work between each stone group, giving the ring an airy, architectural quality that is very characteristic of the period. A slightly larger centre stone anchors the design, surrounded by four groups of smaller stones at the cardinal points and further stones filling the outer edge.
The construction is two-tone: a platinum top with an 18ct yellow gold shank — a combination that was common in the transition between the Edwardian and Art Deco periods, when platinum was prized for its strength and whiteness in setting diamonds but gold remained the preferred metal for the band.
Store Location: Wallingford
Ring Size: R
Gemstones: Diamonds approximately 0.70ct.
Hallmarks: Stamped 18ct and PLAT for 18ct gold and platinum.
Measurements: 14mm top to bottom.
Item Code: LH5
