The central stone is a cushion cut aquamarine of 3.98 carats — a substantial, well-proportioned stone whose soft rectangular outline with rounded corners suits the cushion-shaped mount perfectly. Aquamarine belongs to the beryl family and at its best has a clarity and transparency that few gemstones match — this stone has exactly that quality, with a pale, luminous blue-green that shifts subtly depending on the light.
