Art Deco 1.39ct Diamond Solitaire Ring in Platinum

£4,495.00

An Art Deco diamond solitaire ring in platinum, dating from approximately the 1920s to 1930s.

The central diamond, weighing approximately 1.39 carats, is an old European cut stone of excellent proportions. The old European cut — the immediate predecessor to the modern round brilliant — is prized today for its distinctive character: a higher crown, smaller table facet, and larger culet produce a play of light that is softer and more romantic than the precision-engineered flash of a contemporary diamond. In candlelight or warm light, these stones come alive in a way that modern cuts simply cannot replicate.

The setting is quintessentially Art Deco: geometric and architectural, with refined detail to the shoulders that is very much of the period. Platinum was the metal of choice for Art Deco jewellers — harder than gold, it allowed craftsmen to achieve finer milgrain edges and more delicate claw work while maintaining exceptional durability. It also complements the cool brilliance of a white diamond perfectly.

At 1.39 carats, this is a substantial diamond for the period, and the ring wears with quiet confidence — striking without being showy. It would make an outstanding antique engagement ring or a significant addition to a fine jewellery collection.
