18ct Gold Old Cut Diamond Trilogy Ring (1ct)

£1,599.00

A classic three-stone ring featuring old cut diamonds totalling approximately 1ct, each bezel-set in white metal and raised on a textured 18ct gold band. Hallmarked for 2000, the warm sparkle and softer facet pattern of the old cut diamonds give this ring a timeless, vintage-inspired character, despite its relatively recent hallmark date.

About Old Cut Diamonds

Old cut diamonds, which include the old European cut and the earlier old mine cut, were the dominant diamond cutting styles before the modern round brilliant cut was standardised in the early 20th century. Cut by hand rather than with the precision machinery used today, old cut diamonds typically have a smaller, flatter table, a higher crown and larger facets, giving them a warmer, softer sparkle often described as having more “fire” and less white brilliance associated with modern cuts.

Because old cut diamonds were hand-faceted, no two stones are quite identical, and their slightly irregular, romantic quality has made them increasingly sought after, whether set in a genuinely antique piece or, as here, in a more recently made setting using diamonds sourced from an earlier period. A bezel setting, where the diamond is held by a rim of metal rather than claws, is a classic way to showcase an old cut stone, offering excellent security while complementing the softer, rounded outline typical of these cuts.
