Heavy 18ct Sapphire & Diamond Gypsy Ring

Sold

Lovely heavy vintage 18ct gold gypsy ring, set with a round cut sapphire and two brilliant cut diamonds measuring approximately 1ct total. The gypsy setting is one of the oldest and most satisfying ring designs in fine jewellery — stones set flush and deep into a solid metal shank, held by star-cut claws that radiate outward from each stone like points of a compass. It is a setting that prioritises security and wearability above all else, and in heavy 18ct yellow gold it has a weight and solidity that feels genuinely substantial on the finger.

Dated by hallmark to 1975, the ring is set with three stones in a classic trilogy arrangement: a teal sapphire of approximately 0.80 carats at the centre, flanked by two brilliant cut diamonds of approximately 0.50 carats each, totalling approximately 1 carat of diamond weight and 1.80 carats of gemstone weight in total. The teal sapphire is the detail that makes this ring — not the deep royal blue most associated with sapphires, but a rich blue-green that shifts between the two colours depending on the light. Teal sapphires have become increasingly sought after in recent years as buyers look for coloured stones with genuine individuality.

The two diamonds sit flush in their star-set mounts to either side, their brilliant cut faceting providing a clean white contrast to the sapphire without competing for attention. The combination of teal and white in heavy yellow gold is striking and completely of its era.
