Presenting a ring to your partner to get engaged has long been a custom, but where did it come from? As far back as 1215, the then Pope declared that there should be a waiting period between betrothal and the marriage itself, and a ring was given to the partner during the waiting period to signify their commitment.

The first recorded diamond engagement ring was given by the Archduke Maximilian of Austria, who presented one to Mary of Burgundy in 1477. Diamonds in the 1400s were rare and were the luxury of only royalty and the super rich of the times.

Engagement rings are one of the most personal choices you will ever make - you're going to wear your ring every day for the rest of your life. So make sure you absolutely love it!
