February's Birthstone - Amethyst
Those lucky people born in February not only get to celebrate Valentine’s day, but have the wonderful amethyst as their birthstone.
From the quartz family, amethyst is widely found throughout the world, which makes it a very popular, and affordable gemstone. The stones are usually clear, without inclusions and can be cut in a variety of ways to make the most of their beautiful purple colours.
Its name comes from “amethystos” which in ancient Greek, meant “not intoxicated” and the wearer was believed to be protected from becoming too drunk! Our favourite pieces include:
