May Birthstone - Emerald
Emerald is the birthstone for May, and is one of the most beautiful, natural and historic gems. Emeralds have long been prized as precious, with the stones being mined as far back as 300BC, when they were mined in Egypt for the pharaohs. Cleopatra herself was known to favour the stone, as were many of the Greek and Roman Emperors.
Emeralds can range in colour across the green spectrum, but the best (and more expensive!) ones are mid - dark green. Because it is a natural stone, inclusions are very normal and should be expected. Emeralds are meant to promote intuition and aid against memory loss, as well as having a positive effect on fertility. Our favourites include:
